  10.    This disc is one of a series of 20 converted font discs that will 
  11. be available from the Floppyshop PD Library in December 1996 to February 
  12.     1997. More discs will be added later (just as soon as my STe has 
  13.        had a chance to cool down from all the batch conversions.)

  15.            But in the mean time, if you'd like to talk about
  16.     Calamus, fonts, graphic design or typography, then why not drop

  27. One of the few problems with Calamus is its lack of reasonably priced 
  28. fonts. There's plenty of PD fonts, agreed, but many of them are badly-
  29. drawn and of poor quality. There's an abundance of commercial fonts, but 
  30. at a price, and what a price! Here's a few examples from DMC's 1989 
  31. price list:

  33. Antique Olive (5 fonts in different weights and styles): $99.95
  34.  
  35. Compugraphic Omega (an Optima clone, 3 fonts): $99.95
  36.  
  37. Souvenir Gothic (2 fonts): $79.95
  38.  
  39. And that's why I was so pleased to receive 20 discs of Postscript Type 1 
  40. fonts earlier this year; high quality PD fonts that were ripe for 
  41. conversion. And not just any old fonts - the scrapings of the 
  42. imaginative barrel - how about Bembo, or Perpetua, Optima perhaps, or 
  43. Korinna? Not in the odd weights that you normally see, but as useable 
  44. families: Normal, Normal Italic, Bold and Bold Italic.

  53. >>> Most of the fonts on this disc were converted from Postscript Type 
  54. 1's to Calamus format with Matthew Carey's superb 'Fonty' programme. The 
  55. spacing was set at 05/256, and they were then kerned at 05 on either 
  56. side. (But not invariably - some of the fonts in this series have very 
  57. different settings.)

  59. >>> This is the second part of the collection to appear in the 
  60. Floppyshop catalogue, and some of the fonts on these last eight discs 
  61. are Calamus originals bought from other PD libraries. You may have seen 
  62. some of them before, but a good 50% of these fonts (Modern Display 
  63. Faces, Old Display Faces, and Scripts) are new to Calamus.

  66. than 500 fonts - occupying nearly 20 meg on my hard drive - while still 
  67. keeping track of which ones are conversions, which ones need kerning, 
  68. and which ones have altered for a specific job.

  71. as I know, free of copyright and entirely in the public domain. I'd be
